| Formation of the CBMA Just over a decade ago, the beach music community realized the need to honor the best of its best. Suggestions from industry members as well as fans resulted in the 1995 birth of The Carolina Beach Music Awards. The first three installments of the annual ceremony were held in North Carolina - one in Salisbury; two in Charlotte. By 1998, however, officials decided to move the event to North Myrtle Beach, SC. The decision to bring the awards presentation to the original home of Carolina Beach Music - and the shag - proved a wise choice, as the tradition has gained popularity, growing into a five-day celebration known as CBMA Weekend held each November. The festivities include local appearances by a number of Carolina Beach Music performers and culminates with the Sunday afternoon awards ceremony followed by a VIP party sponsored by Hayes Jewelers of Lexington, NC. The organization's obvious goal is to draw attention and admiration to individuals and groups who keep the beat strong in today's industry: vocalists, musicians, writers, dancers, engineers, producers, promoters, radio and moblle DJ personalities and others. Since beach music is and has been heavily influenced by a collaboration of sounds, the CBMA also goes a step further to pay tribute to those musical genres like rhythm & blues, soul and jazz that form the foundation for Carolina Beach Music. Additionally each year, beach music professionals who have made strong contributions to the industry over the course of their careers are tapped for induction into the CBMA Hall of Fame. Membership to the CBMA is open to anyone who has a genuine interest in the support and preservation of Carolina Beach Music. Individuals may submit applications to join the cause on one of two levels: the industry professional level or the associate level, according to guidelines for joining the organization. |
